Medical support for Blessings Moyo

Supported a fundraising effort by covering the remaining USD 360 required for a child’s MRI scan after the family had raised USD 390 of the USD 750 total cost.

On 18 May 2026, DP Foundation identified a public appeal seeking financial assistance for medical treatment for Blessings Moyo, a six-year-old child diagnosed with rhabdomyosarcoma in 2024.

After engaging with the child’s caregiver and assessing the situation, DP Foundation, together with GG Property Developers, approved assistance towards the MRI scan. The total scan cost was USD 750; the family had raised USD 390, leaving a balance of USD 360.

On 20 May 2026, DP Foundation facilitated payment of USD 360 directly to Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals, completing the required amount. Proof of payment and supporting documentation were submitted to the hospital’s Accounts Department. The caregiver remains in communication with the Foundation regarding the MRI appointment, surgery and subsequent treatment costs.

28 blankets donated to Esigodini District Hospital

DP Foundation and GG Property Developers donated 28 branded blankets to Esigodini District Hospital in response to a community request for winter bedding.

On 1 June 2026, DP Foundation and GG Property Developers donated 28 branded blankets to Esigodini District Hospital after the community highlighted an urgent need for warm bedding as winter approached.

The handover was coordinated by DP Foundation staff, with hospital employees participating in offloading and arranging the blankets. Dr. Ruvengo verified the items for accountability and transparency, and the hospital issued a Donation Certificate acknowledging receipt.

During the engagement, hospital personnel also identified a further need for an industrial iron for the laundry department because existing equipment was inadequate for the daily volume of linen. The additional need was documented for potential follow-up support.

World Habitat Day housing support initiative

Joined national World Habitat Day activities in Vulindlela and donated a residential stand for allocation to an underprivileged community member.

On 13 November 2025, DP Foundation, in partnership with GG Property Developers and the Ministry of National Housing and Social Amenities, joined stakeholders in commemorating World Habitat Day at the Vulindlela Township Secondary School site in Rangemore, Bulawayo under the theme “Urban Crisis”.

The event brought together more than 300 participants from government, private development, the built environment, academia, finance, civil society, media and the community, creating a platform for dialogue around adequate housing, sustainable urban development and resilience.

As part of the commemoration, DP Foundation and GG Property Developers donated a residential stand to the Ministry of National Housing and Social Amenities for allocation to an underprivileged community member. The intervention demonstrated practical support for vulnerable populations and sustainable community development.

Advancing education and community development in Vulindlela Township

Worked with the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education and GG Property Developers on a Community Resource Centre and a planned primary school serving the growing Vulindlela Township community.

On 27 August 2025, DP Foundation and officials from the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education conducted a site visit in Rangemore, Vulindlela Township as part of ongoing efforts to expand educational and community development opportunities.

Through its strategic partnership with GG Property Developers, DP Foundation secured land for a Community Resource Centre designed to provide family counselling and support, women and youth development training, information dissemination and capacity building. GG Property Developers also supports staff allowances and office administration costs for the initiative.

Alongside the Resource Centre, the Foundation is working with the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education to register a new primary school for the growing township. Once operational, the school is expected to accommodate approximately 960 learners, including Early Childhood Development programmes.

DP Foundation Director honoured at International Social Work Day

The Foundation Director served as Guest of Honour at the Women’s University in Africa’s International Social Work Day and Women’s Month commemoration, attended by 150 participants.

On 18 March 2025, the Director of DP Foundation was the Guest of Honour at the Women’s University in Africa’s commemoration of International Social Work Day and Women’s Month, attended by 150 participants.

The keynote address highlighted challenges affecting social work at macro, mezzo and micro levels, including policy limitations affecting marginalised groups, funding constraints in social services, climate change and health crises, cultural sensitivity in service delivery, organisational barriers and workplace challenges faced by women in social work.

The Director also emphasised client-centred interventions, improved access to mental health services, empowerment of vulnerable populations and stronger access to essential resources. She called on social workers to strengthen advocacy, strategic partnerships, mentorship and resource-sharing while reaffirming social workers’ role in promoting social justice, equality and community wellbeing.

Londimvelo cultural preservation and family psychosocial support

Provided family counselling and psychosocial support while advancing youth-led preservation and documentation of African culture through the Londimvelo project.

DP Foundation’s family-counselling department is supported by a social worker and a mental health nurse, with an interdisciplinary database of short-term staff, individuals and organisations who can be called upon to assist voluntarily.

The Foundation records an approximate 13,000 cases dealt with over five years, including counselling, workshops and conferences. Issues presented included COVID-19, anxiety, post-traumatic stress, mood disorders, relationship challenges, adolescent problems, drug abuse, reproductive health, HIV/AIDS counselling, bereavement, grief and loss, trauma, disability, occupational concerns and acculturation, alongside needs for water, livelihoods and food security.

Londimvelo is a youth and community cultural initiative focused on preserving, packaging and documenting African cultural and traditional norms. The project had approximately 100 members using social media for conversations, bringing together youth, women, traditional leaders and healers. Every year, DP Foundation accommodates at least two university students for career guidance and mentorship.

Spaces for dialogue

Facilitated and participated in dialogue on the citizen budget, PVO Bill amendment, GBV, SRHR, Sustainable Development Goals and youth cultural programming.

During 2021–2022, DP Foundation helped create spaces for dialogue across civic, community and development issues. The documented activities included discussions on the citizen’s budget and proposed PVO Bill amendment, psychosocial effects of COVID-19 among retired nurses, women’s constitutional rights, gender-based violence, sexual and reproductive health and rights, and Sustainable Development Goals.

The Foundation also facilitated youth-led engagement around the Londimvelo cultural project and participated in stakeholder engagements involving organisations such as Women’s Coalition of Zimbabwe, NANGO, UNDESA, Bulawayo City Council, UAF Africa, the Ministry of Women Affairs, the Zimbabwe Gender Commission and the Zimbabwe Republic Police.

COVID-19 response and frontline health study

Worked with Iam4Byo and partners; approximately 200 clients benefited from psychosocial, food and medical support, while 713 frontline health workers participated in a TIBA study.

DP Foundation worked with Iam4Byo as part of the COVID-19 response, contributing to the psychosocial pillar. Frontline workers referred clients who needed psychosocial counselling and support, food and medical supplies. Approximately 200 clients benefited from support provided by individuals and companies.

DP Foundation also partnered with Tackling Infections to Benefit Africa (TIBA) in June 2020 on a study involving frontline health workers in Bulawayo. The study sought to understand testing uptake and antibodies among frontline workers to inform Ministry of Health and Child Care mitigation strategies. A total of 713 health workers participated.

Zithande youth programme

A psychosocial support group for 25 youths focused on SRHR, drug-abuse awareness, jobs and entrepreneurship skills.

During the COVID-19 lockdown period, three youths on university attachment initiated a youth development programme after concerns around drug abuse and sexual activity became prominent on social media. They formed Zithande (“Love yourself”), a psychosocial therapeutic support group involving 25 youths.

The group identified priorities around sexual and reproductive health and rights, rehabilitation and counselling services, awareness of the dangers of drugs, job opportunities and entrepreneurship. DP Foundation trained the youths in basic psychosocial counselling and support, while SNV and Empretec provided agriculture and entrepreneurship training. The youths continued to support each other through monthly meetings.

Eastern Limpopo Joint Venture

Worked in a consortium addressing critical water and food shortages through the rehabilitation and construction of dams serving communities in Umguza.

DP Foundation partnered with ProAfrica Development Trust and the Association of Evangelicals in Africa to form the Eastern Limpopo Joint Venture (ELJV), funded by UK AID through the Climate Resilience Infrastructure Development Fund.

The project addressed critical water and food shortages in Umguza communities, with DP Foundation responsible for community liaison, stakeholder engagement, permits and licences, coordination with ZINWA, EMA, the DA’s office and RDCs, and tracking financial and technical delivery.

The documented dams included Nakaluba, Pelele, Tomasi, Hlatshwayo and Sivule. The profile records community benefits ranging from approximately 1,050 to 1,500 households for several dams, with uses including domestic water supply, livestock watering, irrigation and market gardening.

Constitution literacy and solar irrigation

Distributed Constitution materials, trained women and supported three irrigation schemes with solar-powered water systems for women smallholder farmers.

DP Foundation implemented Constitution literacy and strategic planning activities, including distribution of 1,000 copies of the Constitution of Zimbabwe to women, families and youth. It also distributed copies of “Our country and our nation” and supported the translation of “Called to Care” into isiNdebele, with 1,500 copies printed and distributed in Umguza, Bulawayo and Umzingwane.

The Foundation also coordinated a food-security and livelihoods intervention for women smallholder farmers in Umguza District. Hilton Farm, Highfields and Fountain irrigation schemes were supported, four solar system pumps were successfully installed, and 30 women smallholder farmers were targeted for capacity development around sustainable irrigation and food security.

Community enterprise and NANGO recognition

Supported the Matabeleland Cattle Breeders Initiative and leadership that earned DP Foundation CEO Mrs Mildred Sandi a NANGO Lifetime Achievement Award in 2013.

DP Foundation was one of the founding Board members of the Matabeleland Cattle Breeders Initiative, a community initiative promoting wealth creation through cattle buying, restocking and breeding. The membership grew from an initial 50 members to 100, with the DP Foundation Community Resource Centre serving as a meeting point.

In 2013, DP Foundation CEO Mrs Mildred Sandi received a NANGO Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of leadership that helped revive NANGO, support its regional decentralisation, mobilise resources and strengthen engagement on issues affecting civil society.

Women of Excellence

Supported the launch of Women of Excellence awards and facilitated gender, leadership and entrepreneurship workshops for women and youth.

Read achievement

DP Foundation and Revival of Hope invited women from the NGO and business communities to establish an organisation recognising women who had excelled in different leadership sectors. This became the Women of Excellence Awards, with honourees recognised across politics and decision making, communication, community development, NGO management, health and entrepreneurship, and education.

The Foundation also facilitated gender, leadership and entrepreneurship training workshops for women and youth from different districts through Organisation of Rural Progress members. The documented record states that 200 members were trained and some started businesses using local environmental content.

NANGO leadership and governance

Chaired NANGO, supported decentralization to five provinces, governance work, a directors summer school and an NGO corporate governance manual.

Read achievement

DP Foundation chaired the National Association of Non-Governmental Organisations (NANGO), the umbrella body coordinating NGOs in Zimbabwe. During its leadership, the organisation helped set vision, rebrand NANGO as a voice for civil society, engage government and establish a Directors Retreat Summer School for information sharing and competence development.

Together with other Board members, DP Foundation launched the Zimbabwe Corporate Governance Manual for NGOs, published in May 2006 with DFID support. The Foundation also contributed to the decentralisation of NANGO to five provinces and provided office space for the organisation at the DP Foundation Community Resource Centre in Bulawayo for three years.

Council of Social Workers contribution

Served in the Council of Social Workers in Zimbabwe and supported recognition, regulation and monitoring of professional social work practice.

From 2003 to 2014, DP Foundation’s CEO was appointed by the Minister of Labour and Social Welfare as a member of the Board of the Council of Social Workers in Zimbabwe and served as Vice Chairperson during this period.

The role involved supporting the registration, regulation and monitoring of professional social work practice. The Foundation is documented as having influenced the establishment of the Council and worked to strengthen recognition of social work as a respected profession in Zimbabwe.

Women’s rights, constitution literacy and advocacy

Participated in the Women's Coalition of Zimbabwe, gender advocacy campaigns, Constitution processes, rights education and support for women and youth.

DP Foundation has been involved with the Women’s Coalition of Zimbabwe since 1999 as a founding member organization. The Foundation together with NANGO women’s forum members helped coordinate the launch of the women’s movement in Bulawayo and participated in strategic advocacy campaigns for women’s and girls’ rights.

The organisation contributed to advocacy around the Domestic Violence Act, equal representation in governance and decision-making, and the two national Constitution-making processes that led to the 2013 Constitution. It also trained communities and individuals on rights contained in the Constitution and supported women and youth through Constitution literacy.

The documented profile records at least 550 women and 400 youth trained through this work and notes DP Foundation’s institutional membership in the coalition’s gender-based violence counselling and support network.

HIV/AIDS support and regional consultancies

Launched psychosocial support initiatives and participated in more than 30 consultancies, trainings and facilitation programmes nationally, regionally and internationally.

Across the period 1996–2022, DP Foundation participated in an international visitors exchange programme for people living with HIV/AIDS and launched a psychosocial support fund to mitigate the impact of HIV/AIDS on marginalized women, youths and children and their families.

The Foundation also coordinated a regional workshop on mainstreaming gender, HIV/AIDS and human rights in conflict transformation and peacebuilding with the Southern Africa Conflict Prevention Network. Its wider record includes more than 30 consultancies, trainings and facilitation programmes nationally, regionally and internationally.

Empretec entrepreneurial training

DP Foundation became a Certified Empretec Behavioural Competence Entrepreneurial Trainer and trained over 2,000 Empretecos.

Read achievement

DP Foundation was trained by Empretec in 1993 and subsequently became a Certified Empretec Behavioural Competence Entrepreneurial Trainer. The programme, promoted by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development and co-financed by the Zimbabwe Government through the Zimbabwe Investment Centre, focused on building the personal competencies and practical skills needed to plan and operate small and medium-sized enterprises.

The Foundation trained more than 2,000 Empretecos. The documented profile notes that many participants went on to start their own businesses and some grew from small and medium enterprises into larger business institutions.

DP Foundation also conducted focused interviews and facilitated Empretec workshops, and was the founder and first Secretary of the Empreteco Association Zimbabwe before later serving as its President.
